Monday Random Ten

Happy Monday, or Mother’s Day or not (because, it isn’t always, really), or whatever is going on in your part of the world today. I am having one of those days where everything that was planned is not going according to the…well…plan. And I could have sworn I just dusted and swept this damned floor. Really.

But really, things aren’t that bad, and we got some more pictures hung yesterday and the sun is shining and we have had the pure joy of hanging laundry from our line on the balcony, and plowed through four Harry Potter movies while we punched out some good work.

Enough of that, though. You came for the good stuff.

  1. Don’t Let me Stop You — Kelly Clarkson
  2. Little Lies — Fleetwood Mac
  3. Love — The Smashing Pumpkins
  4. Beginnings — Chicago
  5. Falling or Flying — Grace Potter & The Nocturnals
  6. If U Seek Amy — Britney Spears
  7. Colorblind — Counting Crows
  8. Ain’t Nothing Wrong With That — Robert Randolph and the Family Band
  9. Ruby Blue — Roisin Murphy
  10. Canned Heat — Jamiroquai

Ooh! A video!

From one of my favorite cheesy movies, Center Stage, the final dance off!, where we have three of the main characters from a Love Triangle of DOOM that I won’t go into, dancing ballet to Jamiroquai’s “Canned Heat”. Here the talents of Amanda Schull, Sascha Radetsky, and Ethan Stiefel (OH SURPRISE ALL WHITE PEOPLE), are showcased in this quasi-ballet performance that is supposedly choreographed by one of the dancers in the show. If you want High Drama of Grey’s Anatomy proportions but with ballet slippers instead of scalpels I recommend this movie (plus, Zoe Saldana is pretty awesome, and as I understood it almost everyone in the cast was a classically trained dancer, w/ the possible exception of Susan May Pratt, whom you never actually SEE dancing). Also, there is a ballet to a Michael Jackson song, and it was so ridiculous that you can’t help but love it. For reals. I love movies about dancing.

But here we have two guys in black men’s ballet clothes (one in leather pants, and I just don’t know how that works!), and the woman in a red leotard and slippers with her blond hair twisted into an interesting and fun up-do, and they are Dancing! at a very high energy, weaving in and out of the chorus, bouncing back and forth, and tossing the woman around, who is pushing back and telling them that she will have no more of their macho shenanigans. Nope. Then she joins the chorus, dances away, spins around a bit, and takes a bow as a shining star and potentially a strong and Independent Woman! in her own right. Then end. NO ONE PUTS BABY IN A CORNER YOU KNOW!

*ahem*

(The video starts after the first verse has ended, so with the first chorus)

lyrics:

You know this boogie is for real.

I used to buy my faith in worship,
But then my chance to get to Heaven sli-i-pped
I used to worry about the future
But then I threw my caution to the wind.
I had no reason to be care free
No no no, until I took a trip to the other side of town
Yeah yeah yeah, you know I heard that boogie rhythm
Hey- I had no choice but to get down down down down.

CHORUS

Dance, nothing left for me to do but dance,
All these bad times I’m going through just dance
Got canned heat in my heels tonight baby

I feel the thunder see the lightning
I know this anger’s heaven sent.
So I’ve got to hang out all my hang-ups
Because on the boogie I feel so hell bent
It’s just an instant gut reaction, that I got
I know I never ever felt like this before,
I dont know what to do
But then that’s nothing new,
Stuck between hell and high water
I need a cure to make it through.

Hey- dance, yeah nothing left for me to do but dance
All these bad times I’m going through just dance,
Hey, got canned heat in my heels tonight baby
You I got canned heat in my heels

You know this boogie is for real.

Only the wind can blow the answer
And she cries to me when I’m asleep
She says you know that you can go much faster
I know that peoples’ talk can be so cheap
Yeah yeah
I got this voodoo child inveined on me
I’m gonna use my power to ascend
You know I got these burning heels to use
Sometimes there’s no way to lose
I was born to run
And built to last
You’ll never see my feet ’cause they move so fast

Dance…yeah, hey!
Nothing left for me to do but
Dance
All these bad times I’m going through just
Dance…Hey
Got Canned Heat in my heels tonight, baby

Dance!

Hey DJ
Let the music play
I’m gonna live this party life
Hey DJ
Throw my cares away
I’m gonna live this party life
Hey DJ
Let the music play
I’m gonna live this party life
Hey DJ
Throw my cares away
I’m gonna live this party life

Canned heat in my heels tonight!

You know that this boogie if for real.
Got so much Canned Heat in my heels
Gonna dance, gonna dance my blues away tonight
Whoooooooo!
You know, you know this boogie
This boogie is for real

You know I’m gonna dance my blues away tonight
